Bittersweet Good-bye

I've decided that I'm just not cut out for keeping a photography blog. My postings were sporadic at best, so I've decided to lay this blog off to the side...perhaps forever.

In the meantime, I'll be postings my pictures on my generic blog, All Things Clarinda. Feel free to follow me there!

Dr. Oscar Kashala

Ok, so obviously, this is not a picture that I took, but I did attend this very fascinating lecture tonight. Lots of people were snapping pictures, but I didn't bring my camera because I didn't think taking pictures during a speech would be allowed.
To read more about my experience at the lecture, visit my other blog.

Settling In...

We've moved into our new apartment, and it's slowly becoming our new home. I'll probably post more pictures later as our decorating progresses, but this one showcases my favorite new toy! I've wanted a piano for a very long time. Regular pianos are such a pain to move (and we move a lot), but I've really been enjoying this keyboard. It has weighted keys like a regular piano, plus I can plug in headphones, so my practicing doesn't bother anyone else in our building.

This isn't a very artistic photo, but it does provide a little glimpse into our new home...music and books. :-)

Let's begin this journey again...

My last attempt at keeping a photo journal didn't last very long, BUT I'm in a new apartment now, so I thought I'd start it up again. Hopefully it will last much longer and my photographs will get better.

Today's photo features my cutie-pie, Sallie Sue, sporting her new fall coat. We mostly bought it to help her keep dry when it's raining or snowing outside.

This morning it was snowing! It's actually the 2nd snow of the season already; we woke up to snow this past Saturday as well.

Most will say that it's too early for snow, but I think it's beautiful!!

Gospel Joy

There is nothing like the joy the gospel brings into our lives!
Look at our smiling, happy faces.

Maria Fernanda Pinner was baptized on February 21, 2009.
We, the Young Women presidency, were so happy that she chose to take this wonderful step in her life.
May the Holy Ghost guide her every day.

Back with Cheer! Day 1

I ran out of winter photos, and then it wasn't so wintery around. I had to take a short break from posting every day until we had a new theme.

Our new theme is...Cheer or Happiness...

I think this new theme will be lots of fun.

Since today was a pretty gloomy day, I didn't get outside to take any new pictures.

This is my niece.

What a smile!

Who couldn't be happy or cheerful with that face smiling at you?!

So stoic.

Day 20: Trees and a Ravine

I like the subtle sense of a snow-filled ravine in these pictures
(especially the second one).

Day 19: Bench

I don't know what it is about this picture, but I really like it.
Is it the lines? Is it the shadows?
Is there something quiet and peaceful about an empty park bench?

Day 17: Ice, Snow, Water

I like the contrast in these photos of the ice, snow, and water.
Bridges and trees are always fun, too.

Day 16: Down by the River

Today, Sallie and I took a little walk along the river.
I snapped a few pictures that I think will be fun.
I'll spread them out over the next several days.

Day 15: Hockey

Winter means hockey for many in Minnesota...including my sister!
I only made it to one of her games this entire season.
Here are a couple of action shots of my sister on ice.
She is the one wearing the red pants.

Day 14: Comfort Food

Some days, I have such difficulty going outside.
It's just too COLD!
Mmmmmm...yummy soup...chases the cold away...

Day 13: Traffic

OK...this is the last picture I'll post from last Thursday's snowfall.
This was also taken from the train. Look at how few cars are out at 4:45 on a Thursday evening. Everyone must have avoided this road!
Almost all the other roads had backed up traffic in all directions.

Day 12: Out the Window

Here is another photo from Thursday, the day we were bombarded with snow.
I was stranded downtown Minneapolis, as St Thomas closed early and I missed the last shuttle to St Paul.

I walked to the light rail and took it to my old stop (from before I moved to St Paul), so Jeff wouldn't have to drive all the way to downtown Minneapolis.

It was fun to ride the train again!

This was taken from the window at one of the stops.

Day 10: Driving in the Snow

We got bombarded with snow today.
This picture was taken after spending a couple hours driving in the snow (to and from school). I feel sorry for anyone who doesn't have a garage!
Tomorrow I may feel differently, as we just might be snowed into our garage. :-)

Day 9: Up in a Tree

I don't know if this depicts winter exactly, but I did take the picture in February, so it counts, right?!
We were surprised to see such a beautiful cardinal on our walk today-
even more surprised I was able to get a picture before it flew away!

Day 8: Playing in the Snow

Sallie LOVES to play in the snow.
She is so funny to watch as she runs and plays.
Sometimes the way she jumps, I think she's mimicking the bunnies she likes to chase!
Stupid leash...it's always getting in her way.

Day 7: Scrappy Sallie

Well, I'll be honest, I didn't take these today, or scrapbook them today.
BUT...
It is a fun winter scrapbook page with my favorite subject--Sallie!

Day 6: Snug as a Bug!

Even our little girl, Sallie, likes to cuddle all up in lots of blankets in the cold Minnesota winter!

Saturday, February 21, 2009

Day 5: Snowbeard

With the freshly fallen snow, Sallie has been coming in with the cutest snowbeard.
Naturally, today, when I wanted to capture it on film, she didn't get as much snow on her face.
Trust me, she does have some snow drooping like a beard!
Guess I'll have to try another day.

Day 4: Fire!

On a cold, blustery, snowy evening, who doesn't appreciate a glowing fire??

Thursday, February 19, 2009

Day 3: Socks

My family lovingly calls them Ugly Socks. Every Christmas the Ugly Sock Fairy pays me a visit. This Christmas was a particularly good year!

This picture is just a sampling of some of the fun socks in my drawer.

Winter can be so cold and dreary...at least my feet will be warm! :-)

Day 2: Footsteps in the Snow

I love the look of freshly fallen snow. It's so tranquil and peaceful.
The first steps in that snow seem to carry an almost sacred feeling to me.

Day 1: Winter

Our first theme is Winter. Tonight it was snowing, so I attempted to take a picture of the falling snow from my balcony. Naturally it didn't really capture the snow, but it does still look like a nice Winterscape.
